Scary evening in Frechen: Dark joy for young and old!
When the light of the autumn months falls on the dark streets of Cologne, one thing above all comes to life: the anticipation of Halloween. During this special time, ghosts big and small set out to transform the streets and gardens into eerie landscapes. This also applies to the Dammin family in Frechen-Königsdorf, who prepare their scary evening with a lot of passion every year. Last year her spooky garden attracted around 500 visitors and the preparations, which took several weeks to complete, are a testament to the careful planning that went into it. For around eight years, an impressive light show on the family's house wall has been creating a spooky atmosphere.
But the Halloween preparations go beyond Frechen-Königsdorf. In Hamm-Westtünnen, the two 17-year-olds Jonas and Hendrik have converted their parents' house into a scary house. This special project is actively supported by family and friends and offers visitors two variants: a child-friendly area and an exciting adult course. The latter features human “frightener” actors and creepy effects. Her journey into horror land began at the age of ten - pretty brave! Access to their scary house is free, but a donation box for a children's and youth hospice is available.
Halloween in the cinema and on the screen
Those who prefer acoustics can look forward to a special performance of the silent film “Nosferatu” in Bochum’s “Rottstraße 5 Theater”. There the atmospheric music is performed live with unusual instruments, such as a cake fork on a pane of glass. Such performances make Halloween evening special – an experience for all the senses.
