Recklinghausen shines: Spectacular drone show delights visitors!
A very special light and drone spectacle is currently lighting up the city of Recklinghausen! The annual event “Recklinghausen shines” opened its doors on October 24th and runs until November 9th, 2025. This exciting week of action is a real highlight for locals and visitors. Different events and attractions organize the evenings, including daily light shows between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., which are projected on the town hall. [Ruhr24 reported].
A special program item, the terrace glowing on the church square, also took place on October 25th and offered visitors the opportunity to enjoy free drinks and snacks. The following day, October 26th, there were short concerts in the St. Peter's provost church under the direction of Rasmus Baumann. Those interested can join free city tours at the Westenergie Counter on the town hall square.
Photo competition and closing event
Creative people like to take photos? Up to three photos per participant can be submitted to the photo competition until November 11th. There are attractive prizes of up to 750 euros for the best images. The three best submissions will receive a prize and twelve of the best photos will be immortalized in an annual calendar for 2026. On the final day, November 9th, there will be Sunday shopping from 3pm to 8pm, followed by another exciting drone show.
This is how you get to Recklinghausen
Anyone who wants to travel by car can use the A43 from the north or south to the Recklinghausen/Herten exit and the A2 from the east to Recklinghausen Ost. Coming from the west, you can reach the A43 via the Recklinghausen motorway junction. Public transport is also provided: more than 20 bus lines and night express lines take visitors to the city center. Parking is available free of charge from 4 p.m. in certain car parks, including the Saalbau/Dorstener Straße car park, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and Hertener Straße 15.
Outside the box: Drone shows are very popular. Similar events, such as the Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf, feature impressive LED drones that light up over 1,000. Flashing different colors and flying in sync with the music, these drones create stunning 2D and 3D animations. A show like this makes visitors' hearts beat faster. It's fascinating to see how each aircraft functions as a pixel, bringing to life numerous creative motifs, including Ferris wheels and geometric shapes. WDR reports about the detailed preparations for these spectacular events.
The combination of fascinating light displays, musical experiences and a lively atmosphere makes “Recklinghausen shines” an unforgettable experience for young and old. Come along and enjoy the special moments of this week of lights!
