Exciting reviews: Bergisches sports year 2025 in focus!

What a year! 2025 will be remembered for a long time in Cologne and the surrounding area. The sport has had numerous highlights and a few surprises here in the Bergisches Land, as can be seen in the review by RGA shows.

In October there was a change of coach at TuRa Remscheid-Süd, where Matthias Winkler took over the helm. At the same time, SG Hackenberg was able to celebrate its first win of the season in the district league, a big moment against DV Solingen II. The young athletes also showed strong: Kim Lea Müller managed to win the gold medal in freestyle at the BMX European Championships in Eindhoven.

Pleasing promotions and exciting matches

Another highlight was the promotion of AFC Remscheid Amboss to the regional league. They defeated the Greyhounds Wuppertal 45:10 in a thrilling game. In handball, referee Leonard Bona distinguished himself by officiating, together with Malte Frank, a Bundesliga game between VfL Gummersbach and THW Kiel, which ended in a thrilling draw (25:25).

The Remscheider TV judo team had to admit defeat in the final of the German Championship of the UJKC Potsdam, which they lost 6:8. The X-ray run, one of the traditional events, also had to take place without new records due to the heavy rain, while the district league A game between Hastener TV and Genclerbirligi Opladen was canceled early because the guests were leading 22-0.

A look at the 2024 Summer Olympics

As we look to the coming weeks and months, the 2024 Paris Olympics are just around the corner, a great opportunity for our athletes. The BMX race in particular promises to be exciting. In the men's discipline, 24 athletes from 17 countries qualified, including some outstanding talents. The competition will take place at the Stade BMX de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and will be held on August 1st and 2nd, as Wikipedia and SecondAir report.

The first day of competition features quarter-finals and repechages, followed by the semi-finals and final on the second day. These competitions feature an exciting new structure in which participants compete three times and the seedings are recalculated after each round.

The anticipation is great! BMX racing fever will grip the world at the beginning of August and it will be interesting to see whether Tokyo Olympic champion Niek Kimmann can impress in the next edition, although this time he will be replaced by Dave van der Burg.

The sport remains dynamic

In November, Bergische HC stabilized itself in the handball Bundesliga and was able to prevail against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf with a 40:38 win after extra time. VfL Gummersbach, on the other hand, suffered a defeat against TBV Lemgo and thus gave up their cup ambitions. In the Oberliga, HG Remscheid only had one bright spot when they won against MTG Horst Essen, before the other results were rather sobering.

If we finally look at December, it shows that Bergische HC shone in the DHB quarter-finals and won against MT Melsungen 30:23. The contracts of both the coaches and players have been extended, showing the long-term perspective that is important for the club.

Sport in Cologne and the surrounding area is flourishing, and even though the year 2025 is slowly coming to an end, it will be exciting to see what the future will bring us in the sports sector. Stay tuned!
