Changes on Alleestrasse: New providers and vacancies at a glance!

A lot has happened on Alleestrasse in Remscheid in 2023. The change is particularly noticeable on the popular shopping street, which has undergone many changes. Loud RGA A current inventory shows that there are around 100 shops along the avenue. But the vacancy is particularly noticeable on the lower avenue. The Postbank and the Ayk Sonnenstudio, among others, closed their doors here in July 2023.

In contrast, there are also positive things to report. New businesses have opened that are bringing a breath of fresh air into the shopping culture. The 24-hour “Snack Hour” kiosk and the Café Herzstück provide variety and attract visitors. This café, which opened in January 2024, has already delighted many guests. Another highlight is the “Supermarket Mahbub Afghan”, which offers Asian food next to the Primula ice cream parlor.

Innovations and challenges

The changes are not just due to the closures. New offerings such as the “Balkh Restaurant”, which has brought Afghan specialties back to the former premises of “Romi’s Knusper Kebab”, are also contributing to the revitalization of the street. This shows that, in addition to challenges, there are also opportunities that the city is actively trying to exploit. Andreas Huth, head of the urban development department, reports optimistically about interested parties who want to live on Alleestrasse.

The city has also launched funding opportunities to revitalize vacancies and enable a change of perspective. The plan is to divide the avenue into three parts: retail will be located in the upper third, while space will be created for living, services, leisure and restaurants in the lower area. Those responsible are paying particular attention to “special cases” such as the former cinema and the Sinn-Leffers building.

The city has big plans for the future to minimize vacancies and make Alleestrasse more attractive again. The biggest challenge and opportunity lies in adapting to the needs of the residents and visitors.

In the midst of these developments, the decision for certain businesses also becomes important. The “For you” shop opened at number 30, while the former children's area is now empty. The nail salon “My Nails” has also moved into the space that once housed Natsu Tea. What remains is continuous change that requires top teams and creative minds to move Alleestrasse forward.

With a mix of new, exciting offerings and the challenge of reducing existing vacancies, Alleestrasse appears to be on an exciting path. Andreas Huth remains optimistic and sees the city in a position to shape future developments positively. We can only hope that the trend will continue and that Alleestrasse will regain its original vitality.
