Jüchen's archive: Free access to historical treasures!
The city of Jüchen invites its citizens to take a look at its own history. The city archive offers interested people the opportunity to view documents and materials on site free of charge. The archive director, Dr. Stephen Schröder, highlights the on-site inspection of the archive materials, which proves to be valuable for the local community. The archive is open for public viewing Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Monday to Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Thursdays the archive is even open until 6 p.m. In order to be able to process inquiries properly, we recommend that you register in advance by email kreisarchiv@rhein-kreis-neuss.de or by telephone at 02133/53 02 10.
A very special date is also coming up: every two weeks, specifically on every second Friday (with the exception of public holidays), Jüchen holdings can be used in Haus Katz or in the city town hall. The next date is June 27th. It is advisable to order the desired materials up to two days before viewing. More information is below www.rhein-kreis-neuss.de/archiv to find.
Various treasures in the archive
The Jüchen city archive, part of the archive in the Rhine district of Neuss since September 21, 2018, houses around 700 linear meters of archive material. This includes not only administrative documents, but also documents, photos, books from private property as well as newspaper reports and civil status documents. The archive is therefore a veritable treasure trove of historical documents, accessible to all citizens and enabling a deep understanding of local history. Access to these materials is crucial for historians, researchers and interested citizens. Ultimately, the city archivist not only offers the opportunity to inspect, but also provides valuable support in discovering and understanding past experiences and changes in the city.
The work of the city archivist is extremely important because without his efforts, much valuable information and history could potentially be lost. It not only ensures that historical documents are cataloged and secured, but also that they are presented to the public in an understandable and accessible form. A well-thought-out organization system and regular checks of the holdings ensure efficiency in archive management, so that preserving digital content and minimizing damage are also given high priority.
Archive work and digitization
Today, city archives are faced with the challenge of managing physical and digital materials. Digitizing documents makes information easier to access and contributes to long-term retention. This development is also being pushed forward in Jüchen and offers citizens quick access to important documents. With modern search capabilities, it's so much easier to find the information you want.
City archives not only promote understanding of one's own origins, they also support awareness of a city's cultural heritage. They provide identity-creating documents and enable the public to understand social changes and cultural movements. This is how history comes to life and the past becomes tangible. Anyone who is interested in the history of Jüchen or is looking for specific information will not only find valuable support in the city archives, but also a home for their own curiosity!
