Serious traffic accident on the A59 near Cologne on Thursday morning, October 9th. A tragic accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. in a construction site between Wahn and Lind when a mobile home hit a truck in front for reasons that were still unclear. This collision resulted in a following car, driven by a 27-year-old man, also crashing into the mobile home. The impact was so violent that both vehicles burst into flames. Erftkreis News reported that the driver of the mobile home died at the scene of the accident and five other people, including two first responders, were injured, some seriously.
Emergency doctors and a rescue helicopter were quickly on site to take care of the injured. Many of the victims required urgent medical attention and at least three of the injured were taken to hospital. The pastors were also on duty to look after eyewitnesses and those involved in the terrible incident. WDR adds that another truck, a rubble truck, also drove into the scene of the accident without being able to brake in time.
Road closed and rescue underway
The accident site was closed for several hours to allow the Cologne Police Traffic Inspectorate 2 to record the accident. The flow of traffic on the A59 was severely restricted as a result, although the road in the direction of Cologne has now been reopened. However, the opposite direction towards Bonn remains closed until the evening while the recovery of the vehicles is proving complicated. The police are now investigating the identity of the deceased driver and the exact cause of the accident.
