Peace Stream Prize for Luise Kinseher: Award on November 6th!
November is just around the corner and with it comes a lot of exciting events in Dormagen and the surrounding area. A special highlight will be the awarding of the Peace Stream Prize, which will take place on November 6th. The award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros, is given to Luise Kinseher, known to many as “Mama Bavaria” from Nockherberg. This honor recognizes her commitment to German-language dialect poetry and reminds us of the tradition of the prize, which is awarded every two years by the International Dialect Archive Ludwig Soumagne, according to dormago.de.
Also worth a look is the historical dimension of the Friedestrom Prize, which is named after Friedestrom Castle, which was built in the 14th century. The last award ceremony took place on November 19, 2023 to Daniel Wader. Wikipedia notes that the prize is awarded to personalities who have made outstanding contributions to dialect poetry. Luise Kinseher has more than met these criteria since becoming the first woman to play “Mama Bavaria” in 2011.
Public commemorations and important events
There are also numerous memorial days in the region in November. Particularly highlighted are All Souls' Day on November 1st, Remembrance Day on November 16th and the Sunday of the Dead on November 23rd. On these days, public events are only permitted to a limited extent, which many clubs and organizations in the city have to take into account.
It's not just the Peace Power Prize that's on the agenda. The city of Dormagen has also turned off the public drinking water fountains since October 31st. Another important point is the renovation of the water pipes on Roggendorfer Straße, which will begin on November 3rd. These measures are necessary to improve the quality of care for citizens.
Various initiatives and events
There are also numerous initiatives in the city. A spiritual dinner by the SPIRIT group from the parish of St. Michael was very popular and shows the commitment of the community. Another exciting event is coming up with the concert matinée “On Winter Journey” in the Stefanssaal of the Grevenbroich-Langwaden monastery on November 2nd, with free entry for all culture lovers.
On November 9th, a commemoration of Kristallnacht will take place in the Jewish cemetery on the Zonser Heide, which will be a reminder of Dormagen's important role in history. In addition, the Mönchengladbach Employment Agency's digital theme week on careers and further training will begin on November 3rd.
The citizens of Dormagen can therefore look forward to an eventful November – full of memories, honors and numerous opportunities for cultural participation. New initiatives such as the founding of the “Die Linke / Die PARTEI” faction in the city council and the recurring “NovemBart” fundraising campaign are also doing their part to keep the city alive!
So there is a lot to do and experience in Dormagen, and we are excited about the developments that this month will bring us.
