Lüftelberg is getting a modern fire station – construction will start soon!
Lüftelberg can be happy: a new fire station is just around the corner! Construction work will begin shortly after the building permit has been received and the contract has been awarded. Mayor Holger Jung, the fire department of the Meckenheim Volunteer Fire Department as well as the architect and project developer recently gave the symbolic starting signal for this important project blick-current reported.
The new building will be built at the entrance to Lüftelberg, directly on Südstrasse. The two-story building combines administration and operational areas and is equipped with a vehicle hall that offers space for two fire engines. The Lüftelberg fire fighting group currently has a fire engine and a personnel transport vehicle, which makes the need for a modern equipment shed all the more urgent.
State-of-the-art equipment for emergency services
The new fire station will not only have the necessary parking spaces, but will also contain a large training room and a three-story stair training tower. The latter plays a crucial role in the training of young talent, who should be well prepared for deployment.
This new building replaces the old fire station, which no longer meets current requirements. The city of Meckenheim acquired the property for the new building in 2023 after a feasibility study delivered positive results. On June 14, 2023, the city council unanimously awarded the planning work to the Reuter architectural firm. In addition, the Committee for Construction, Economic Development and Tourism approved the preliminary draft planning on March 5, 2024, which was presented to the public in mid-May 2024.
On track for completion
After the building application was submitted in August 2024, the building permit has been available since the beginning of 2025. The tender and award process took place in June 2025, with the company Ten Brinke submitting the most economical offer at 4.1 million euros gross. Construction will take approximately one and a half years and completion is scheduled for late spring 2027.
In the end, this project will not only support the Lüftelberg fire fighting group, but will also serve as an example for other communities that are involved in the planning and implementation of fire brigade buildings. About the company Goldbeck It can be ensured that the technical and design specifications are optimally met. With many years of experience and regional roots, a fire station can be implemented quickly, on time and in a cost-effective manner.
Overall, the new fire station is another sign of how Lüftelberg and the city of Meckenheim are investing in the safety of their citizens. Not only is space created here for modern emergency units, but investments are also being made in the future of the fire department.
