New President Karl Böttcher: Lions Club Meckenheim celebrates 20 years!
Karl Böttcher recently took over the presidency of the Lions Club Meckenheim-Wachtberg in a ceremonial setting. This happened in the Münchhausen castle restaurant and underlines not only his fast career within the club, but also the anniversary of “20 years of the Lions Club Meckenheim-Wachtberg”. With this choice, Böttcher, who only became a member in July 2023, is a rather rare case, because such a responsibility often requires more time in club life. He succeeded past President Renate Diefenbach and received symbols of his new office such as the presidential pin, the bell, the hammer and the baton when he was handed over.
Böttcher, a doctor of law with experience in various positions, including in the Federal Ministry of Defense, enters his new role with a clear motto: “Active together, strong together, helping together!” In his inaugural speech, he thanked his management team, consisting of Dr. Angelika Wurm, Michael Sperling, Renate Diefenbach, Katharina Bleutge, Dr. Marten Obeling, Karlheinz Stoehr, Heiner Wurm and Dr. Gudrun Mieth-Leichsenring, for her support and trusting support.
Focus on commitment and solidarity
The Lions Club, a global organization dedicated to serving the common good, plans numerous activities under Böttcher's leadership to do good both financially and through personal commitment. Its program aims not only to raise proceeds for regional charitable projects, but also to strengthen the club's external impact and vibrancy. “Community, successful and voluntary action is at the center of our club life,” says Böttcher.
The Meckenheim-Wachtberg Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, an organization that has operated worldwide since its founding in 1917. With over 1.4 million members in 50,060 clubs, the community is committed to humanitarian projects, education and health promotion, such as programs to combat avoidable blindness and support children. This international connection offers members numerous opportunities to get involved beyond regional borders and promotes the network between different clubs.
A positive outlook
Böttcher is optimistic about the coming year and is convinced that the club can achieve a lot of good through a variety of planned activities. He wants the club not only to grow, but also to act actively and positively. “Something is important,” says the new president, motivated to further promote the community and strengthen the helpful identity of the Meckenheim-Wachtberg Lions Club.
Overall, the handover of Böttcher was accompanied by warm applause from those present, which further fueled the anticipation for the coming months and the activities in the anniversary year. With this in mind, the members of the club invite everyone interested to join in the commitment to the common good and to actively participate in the projects.
