The festive season is just around the corner, and the long-awaited Christmas market season will soon begin in North Rhine-Westphalia. The first market opened its doors in the Essen district on November 2nd, 2025 and invites you to enjoy the pre-Christmas atmosphere. With markets in other cities following until Christmas, nothing stands in the way of a 'mulled wine festival' December.
Among the numerous events, the Christmas market at Hohenlimburg Castle in Hagen stands out. This romantic market opens on three weekends in Advent, namely from November 28th to 30th, from December 5th to 7th and from December 12th to 14th, 2025. This festive spectacle is being held for the 21st time and impresses with its 1000 square meter outdoor area and a colorful range of regional products and handicrafts.
Diversity at the Christmas market
Visitors can look forward to handcrafted products made from wood, iron and ceramics, as well as a range of culinary delights that leave nothing to be desired. With a musical program, guests can relax to festive music and enjoy the magic of Advent.
The market's opening hours are also tempting: Fridays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The entrance fee is 9 euros for adults and 4 euros for children aged 7 and over. The ticket price even includes a shuttle bus ride from Hohenlimburg train station, although parking at the castle is not possible. A great service, especially for those who want to enjoy the contemplative atmosphere without stress.
Another interesting Christmas market will take place on November 29th in Lüdenscheid around the Church of the Redeemer and has the resounding name “Christmas market of good deeds”. Here we not only celebrate, but also do good things.
Christmas markets in the region
Anyone who wants to experience the tradition of a Christmas market in the classic sense can look forward to numerous markets in Munich. From November 24th to December 24th, 2025, the historic Christmas market will take place at Marienplatz, which has a lot to offer with its long history and the large nativity scene market.
