New cycle path between Dülken and Boisheim: Safe and passable!

With a fresh cycle path between Boisheim and Dülken, the city of Viersen has opened a new chapter in the promotion of cycling. The official inauguration of the renovated path took place on October 29, 2025, which is now fully passable again and offers cyclists a pleasant ride. The outgoing mayor Sabine Anemüller, local mayor Rainer Tielmann and various department heads took part in the test drive, which had already taken place in advance. This first test was an important step in checking the quality of the newly designed cycle path.

But what was the reason for this comprehensive renovation? The cycle path had massive root damage over a length of around 4.2 kilometers. In order to meet these challenges, three different construction methods were used. This included the installation of 22 root bridges, the installation of a water-bound pavement and the renewal of the asphalt pavement, all with the aim of improving safety and attractiveness for cyclists.

Renovation as part of a larger plan

The measures in Viersen are part of the vision of the National Cycling Plan 3.0, which the federal government is pursuing until 2030. This plan aims to make cycling in Germany more attractive and safe, like that BMV holds correctly. By creating high-quality infrastructure, more people should be encouraged to cycle. On the one hand for everyday mobility, but also for cycle tourism, which is becoming increasingly important nationally and internationally. The city of Viersen is taking an active role here and is following the recommendations from the national concept.

The renovation of the cycle path between Dülken and Boisheim is also in line with the trend that the federal government has set for cycle traffic. In the future, cycling in Germany should not only be an environmentally friendly but also a comfortable and safe way of getting around. To achieve this goal, cities and municipalities like Viersen are required to expand their infrastructure accordingly.

A look into the future

With the completion of the second construction phase, the cycle path is now accessible again along its entire length. This not only opens up new scope for cyclists, but also increases awareness of sustainable mobility in the region. The work is a clear sign that Viersen has a good knack for promoting cycling and is actively working on a more attractive living environment for all citizens.

These new developments show that cycling is on the rise. The route between Boisheim and Dülken could soon establish itself as a popular route for commuters and leisure cyclists, at a time when citizens are placing more and more value on environmentally friendly and healthy means of transport.

For everyone who would like to try out the route, it's time to saddle up and start cycling!
