Pinocchio on a journey: Free theater for the whole family in Viersen!

On Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, the Viersen Festhalle will be the venue for a special theater spectacle. From 3 p.m. (doors open at 2:30 p.m.) spectators young and old can look forward to the family-friendly performance of “Pinocchio – a Road Trip”. This production, which is performed by the renowned theaterkohlenpott from Herne, is not only part of the Vierfalt.Kids series, but also marks the start of the Spielarten 25 children's and youth theater festival in Viersen. Admission is free and ensures a colorful afternoon in the festival hall on Hermann-Hülser-Platz.

“Pinocchio,” a character brought to life by Carlo Collodi in his 1883 children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” tells the story of a wooden puppet who longs to become a real boy. Known for his long nose that grows when he lies, the character has become a cultural symbol over the years - not only in original literature, but also in numerous adaptations, including the famous 1940 Disney version and recent film creations such as Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning version. The message of the story remains timeless: it addresses moral responsibility and the consequences of decisions.

A performance for the whole family

The plot of “Pinocchio – A Road Trip” takes viewers into the world of the puppet-like protagonist of the same name, who wants to stay away from class to experience the enticing music of a traveling circus. This exciting story, which has shaped generations, not only reflects the childhood desire for freedom, but also offers interesting insights into the themes of identity and rebellion against the expectations of the adult world.

Theater for children has a long tradition that dates back to the 17th century. There are numerous established children's theaters in Germany, such as the oldest, the “Bühne Morgenstern” in Oldenburg or the “Theater Junge Generation” in Dresden, which is now the largest children's and youth theater in the country. The productions are aimed specifically at young viewers and their families and offer a varied program that is both entertaining and educational. The commitment to promoting theater among children is very important in many cities, so that the magic of theater remains alive.
