Antonius Höckelmann: Large art exhibition in the Liesborn Abbey Museum!

Next Sunday, November 2nd, the Liesborn Abbey Museum in the Warendorf district will be holding a special event at 3 p.m.: the opening of the exhibition “Antonius Höckelmann. A Life for Art”. This comprehensive show is dedicated to the talented artist who was born in Oelde in 1937 and died in Cologne in 2000. How mein-wadersloh.de reported, more than 100 sculptures, drawings and paintings from Höckelmann's work will be presented. This impressive collection shows not only the versatility of his talent, but also his unbroken desire to create.

Höckelmann is considered one of the most outstanding artists in the Warendorf district and impressed with his unconventional approaches to his art. At the beginning of his career he created wooden sculptures and reliefs as well as sculptures made of aluminum foil. Over time he developed further and created impressive ink and wax crayon drawings as well as vivid paintings.

Creative inspirations

What makes his works so special? The thematic focus of his work includes mythological figures, biblical themes and Christian folk tales. However, Höckelmann was also inspired by real life, especially by scenes from the pub and red light district as well as by the excitement of horse and sulky racing. His ability to transform everyday experiences into art gives his work remarkable depth and authenticity.

This exhibition is taking place as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Warendorf district and is supported by several institutions, including the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Sparkasse Münsterland Ost Foundation. The exhibition can also be seen from November 2, 2025 to February 22, 2026, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to familiarize themselves with Höckelmann's work.

Two exhibitions, one artist

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of his death, another exhibition on Höckelmann will take place in the same year, which will also address the public and recognize what a great artist he was. There is a lot of excitement in the air and preparations are in full swing to offer visitors an unforgettable experience.

With such a multifaceted approach to creating art, it is no wonder that Höckelmann's works are still very popular. Next Sunday will certainly be a milestone for art lovers and anyone who wants to learn more about this extraordinary artist.
