Autumn conference: Westphalian gourmet culture celebrates at the Hotel im Engel!

On Tuesday, October 1, 2025, 30 committed participants from 24 family-run hotels and restaurants in Westphalia met for the autumn conference of the “Westphalian Enjoy” initiative. The event took place in the hotel-restaurant “im Engel” in Warendorf – a significant comeback after no conference had been held here for 18 years. What stands out here are the diverse topics that interested the participants: from PR campaigns for cooking with children to a Westphalian Enjoy cooking competition to the first vintage car tour, which also generated great interest.

The initiative, which is supported by five Westphalian companies, is dedicated to regional food culture and promotes the enjoyment of high-quality, local products. Announcements were also made in this context that increase the anticipation of the Westfalen Gala on November 7th in the same hotel, where the popular entertainer Bernd Stelter will be a guest. Golf fans can also look forward to the upcoming Golf Open in Dortmund.

Culinary discoveries in Warendorf

After the informative discussions at the conference, city guide Werner Stock led the participants on a culinary walk through the picturesque old town of Warendorf. It wasn't just culinary at the conference itself, as the Hotel “im Engel” pampered its guests with a selection of regional specialties that would make every gourmet's heart beat faster: from a hearty Westphalian Töttchen to pumpkin soup with chips to a tender fillet of Ameker meadow pork.

  • Westfälisches Töttchen
  • Kürbisüppchen mit Chips
  • Filet vom Ameker Wiesenschwein
  • Dessertvariation von Honig-Kräuter Parfait und Warendorfer Zwetschgen

The evening was enriched by special guests such as Max Stroetmann, managing director of L.Stroetmann wholesale markets in Münster, as well as Frank Wessel and Max Jochem, managers of the Veltins brewery. A communal photo on the Warendorf market square, together with Friedrich-Wilhelm Krüger, the initiative's managing director, rounded off the successful evening.

Insights into Westphalian cuisine

The “Westphalian Enjoy” initiative is not only committed to promoting local gastronomy, but also offers ideas for your own kitchen. The initiative's restaurant guide is packed with recommendations for selected restaurants and provides culinary tips and inspiration. The variety of regional products and the authentic ambience make the culinary experience in Westphalia special. Anyone interested can find out more about how to implement the new Westphalian cuisine in their own kitchen on the initiative's blog.

For those who would like to learn more about Westphalia's culinary heritage, the city of Münster also offers attractive offers, such as a wedding menu that can be booked for groups of ten or more people. This menu includes typical dishes such as Westphalian wedding soup and onion meat, which are very popular at celebrations.

The commitment to regional products and integration into the local food culture are a central part of the initiative, which always strives to present Westphalia's culinary heritage in a fresh way with new accents.
