IS terrorist goes into hiding: Clarification about deportation mishap required!

An explosive issue is currently causing a stir in North Rhine-Westphalia: Mukhammadsaid S., a 39-year-old IS terrorist, went into hiding after the judiciary approved the lawful implementation of his deportation. How Picture According to reports, the man was sentenced to five years in prison in May 2017 for joining IS and working as a security guard in Syria and Iraq. Despite this conviction, he fought for a long time for his right to remain in Germany.

Mukhammadsaid S. most recently lived with his family in Ennigerloh and was described by neighbors as reserved. Mr. Gericke, the district administrator of the Warendorf district, campaigned for his deportation for three years. But even after the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees issued a ban on deportations in 2018 due to the threat of torture in Tajikistan, the case seemed to remain complicated. In October 2024, the Federal Office revoked this ban after Tajikistan assured that Mukhammadsaid S. was not at risk of torture.

The dramatic twist

On October 7, 2025, the man's fight for his right to stay was finally over. He lost his appeal against deportation on September 1st. How WDR reported, the responsible jurisdiction found that the man's immediate deportation was legal - but he had already disappeared at that point. Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) informed the SPD that Mukhammadsaid S. had not complied with his reporting obligation.

Lisa Kapteinat, the deputy leader of the SPD in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament, was angry about the breakdown and emphasized that an immediate arrest should have been made after the court decision. The police are currently searching intensively for him, with solving the case being their “top priority”.

The background to the deportation

Mukhammadsaid S. has had problems with the law in the past. After his arrest in February 2023, when he threatened himself with a knife while in a police station, he was overpowered by a special task force. His skills with weapons, including hand grenades and machine guns, were honed as part of his training for ISIS.

The measures taken and the ongoing effort to deport him demonstrate the challenges the authorities face in dealing with former fighters of ruthless organizations. In this case, the excitement and the questions that are now open are great. The Family Ministry has so far left unanswered questions from the SPD about possible coordination problems in the context of the deportation and the search for Mukhammadsaid S.

Despite the turbulent events, the authorities remain hopeful that the wanted man can be tracked down soon. The situation has reignited public discussion about security issues and the process for deporting terror suspects - a look at the complex challenges and the need for clear processes.
