Brazen trick theft in Wesel: Seniors are robbed of valuable Rolexes!

A brazen theft trick shattered the calm in Wesel on Monday morning. An 83-year-old man was lured into a trap while helping an unknown man find his way to a hospital. During this helpful gesture, the perpetrators dropped their masquerade and stole a valuable Rolex watch from the senior citizen. According to Schermbeck Online, the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. when the obviously skilled perpetrator spoke to the senior citizen. As a thank you for the directions, he placed a gold chain around the man's wrist. But that was just the beginning.

Pretty quickly, a second person arrived - a woman who also wrapped a chain around the senior's other wrist. Despite the senior's repeated rejections, the two stubborn people remained unimpressed. After this bizarre encounter, the two strangers got into a dark car and drove towards the city center. Only later did the 83-year-old notice that his watch was missing.

The perpetrators in view

The description of the perpetrator is telling: The man was around 30 to 35 years old, had dark skin complexion and was wearing dark clothing. He also spoke standard German without an accent. The woman was between 60 and 70 years old, also with dark skin complexion, and was wearing scarves and a skirt. Their language was broken German with a strong accent. A third accomplice, who was not actively involved in the crime, was sitting in the car, which was described as a dark, larger vehicle with a Munich license plate.

The police in Wesel appeal to the population: Anyone with information should call 0281 / 107-0. What is particularly alarming is that such trick thefts are becoming more common. The Hamburg Police reports that older people in particular are often the target of such deceptive maneuvers. Physical proximity and pretexts distract the victims while the thieves attack with lightning speed.

The third in the criminal league

In the overall picture of crime in Germany, the increase in theft crimes is obvious. According to Statista, there were around 1.78 million police-recorded thefts in 2022, including numerous high-quality wristwatches such as Rolex. The whole thing shows a worrying trend that requires increased vigilance among the population.

The police strongly advise people to be suspicious when approached by strangers. People who impose themselves in this way should be loudly asked to keep their distance. A good memory for the appearance and clothing of the perpetrators as well as the direction in which they fled can be crucial in retrospect. It is also recommended to report any suspicious observations immediately.

It remains to be seen whether the 83-year-old can get his valuable Rolex back. Crime in Germany is on the rise and the current events in Wesel are an alarming example of the importance of being vigilant.
