New pocket park in Wuppertal: Green meeting place for everyone!

Something is happening in Wuppertal! The city has exciting plans for the green space on Kölner Straße and Weststraße. As part of a new project, this area will be transformed into a climate-friendly “pocket park”. The goal? Unsealing areas, creating new paths and planting climate-resistant trees so that even the greenest hearts in the city can enjoy it. This development will also be complemented with attractive seating and sports equipment to create a lively meeting place for the area's residents. However, as antenne.nrw reports, some parking spaces will also make way for the new greenery.

But what do citizens expect from this project? The impact on the quality of life in the district remains to be seen, but the city of Wuppertal and the residents are working hand in hand to create a more attractive living environment.

Citizen information event invites you to participate

Today, July 24, 2025, an information event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the corner of Kölner Strasse and Weststrasse to present the plans in more detail. Representatives of the city administration are available to answer questions and suggestions to anyone interested in working together on the vision of the new park. It also explains how the comprehensive renovation and redesign of the area should work, as wuppertal.de reports.

A central concern is the reduction of sealed areas, which enables better infiltration of rainwater. Access to the bus stop on Südstrasse will also be improved with new paths. This will not only increase mobility, but also promote exchange among residents. “The pocket park is intended to become a new heart of the neighborhood,” a city representative sums it up aptly, and the project promises a lot of potential.

Overall, this project brings a breath of fresh air into Wuppertal's urban development. What will the pocket park look like in the end? A lively space for meetings, fresh air and more greenery in the city is within reach. The first steps towards this will be taken today as part of the citizen information event, and it remains exciting to see how residents react to the plans.
