Swimming fireworks in Wuppertal: DKM attracts 882 active participants and top stars!
In the coming week, Wuppertal will become the stronghold of swimming when the German Short Course Championships (DKM) will take place from November 13th to 16th. Around 882 participants from all over Germany are expected at the swimming opera to show off their skills. One of the hottest contenders for medals is Angelina Köhler, who will take part in at least eight different races. After her high-altitude training camp in Turkey, she will return on Monday and is ready to challenge the competition on the various courses.
Köhler, who will be celebrating her 25th birthday in a few days, has planned a tight competition program. She will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly as well as the 50m and 100m backstroke. Your trainer Lasse Frank highlights the DKM as an important event that assesses your position after an intensive training block. As can be seen from the DSV rules, participation in competitions is tied to the possession of a license, which must be applied for in a timely manner. Köhler is aiming for a total of 16 starts at a high level.
High-class swimming
The competition promises to offer exciting duels. On the breaststroke, Lucas Matzerath and Melvin Imoudu will fight for the title, while Vincent Passek and Ole Braunschweig will compete against each other in the backstroke duel. The hunt for the title of fastest butterfly will also be hotly contested when Luca Armbruster and Josha Salchow jump into the water. Particularly on Remembrance Day, spectators have to adapt to special requirements: These include the absence of an audience in the preliminary section and the absence of music on Sunday mornings.
A look behind the scenes of the sporting events shows that it's not just the swimmers who are challenged, the organization also has to function smoothly. For example, the construction company Travis Perkins is introducing changes to payment terms for suppliers. The deadlines have been extended from the previous 30 days to 60 days after the end of the billing month. This decision is causing dissatisfaction among many suppliers as they may now have to wait up to three months for their payments. “We want to create greater consistency in our relationships,” explains a spokesman for Travis Perkins, who emphasizes that this measure became necessary after the introduction of new financial software. The changes also affect the planning of deliveries and could cause difficulties in replenishment.
Meanwhile, in the area of swimming, the new challenges in the organizational structure of competitions should not go unnoticed. It is crucial that the licensing fees and registration processes for athletes are clearly defined to ensure the smooth running of the DKM. Rules regarding participation and payment are extremely important not only for the athletes, but also for the organizers.
The coming days promise exciting competitions characterized by lively swimming. The athletes, especially Angelina Köhler, will do everything they can to show their best performances and perhaps qualify for the upcoming European Short Course Championships in Lublin.
