A very special sports weekend will take place in Wuppertal on September 20, 2025. The 58th Wuppertal Fun Run Not only promises top sporting performance, but also an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded people and promote your own fitness. The event starts on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Bayer Sports Park Rutenbeck. Running enthusiasts of all ages can test their endurance here.

The fun run draws attention to the importance of regular exercise. According to AOK Bergisches Land, which is organizing the event together with SV Bayer Wuppertal and the city's sports and pool department, this event aims to encourage people to increase their physical fitness. After all, running is not only a great way to stay fit, but also promotes mental fitness. “If you want to move the world, you should first move yourself,” says Socrates, and he’s absolutely right.

Whether children, students or families – the fun run is aimed at everyone who enjoys exercise. This shows that exercise is not only important for fitness, but also for general well-being. A recent study shows that around 70 percent of Germans rate their health as good or very good, while a lack of exercise increases the risk of serious illnesses. Statista reports that around 10,000 cases of lung cancer and 6,000 cases of colon cancer in Germany can already be traced back to a lack of exercise.

The benefits of exercise are enormous. Over 80 percent of Germans do sports to promote their health. It is also important to awaken this joy of movement in the youngest, and this is exactly where the Wuppertal fun run comes in. Supported by the AOK, which runs an action stand with information offerings, the social aspect is also emphasized - sport connects and creates community.

A full sports program

In addition to the fun run, the sports weekend can also be enriched by the 38th Wuppertal 24-hour swim on the same day at 1 p.m. in the SSLZ Küllenhahn. An exciting football program awaits fans on Sunday: several matches are scheduled, including the duel between Cronenberger SC and Viktoria Rott at 3 p.m. and the clash between LTV Wuppertal and HSV Überruhr, also at 3 p.m.

The variety of sporting activities not only reflects the commitment of the sports clubs, but also the desire to motivate the population to exercise regularly. It is to be hoped that many Wuppertal residents will take advantage of the opportunity to actively promote their health.
