TC Bad Bodendorf: Back on the tennis court after the flood!

The TC Bad Bodendorf is a club that not only scores with its sporting successes, but above all with its heart and tradition. Since its founding in 1968 by a group of eight committed members, among whom the first chairman was Gustav Weise, the association has continued to develop. The original site on the Ahr was leased to the city of Sinzig for 99 years and was developed with great dedication in the early years: the first two tennis courts were inaugurated in 1969, followed in 1974 by a modern clubhouse with changing rooms.

Over the years, the number of members grew to over 100, and the TC Bad Bodendorf celebrated numerous anniversaries, including the 25th anniversary in 1993 and the 50th anniversary in 2018 with the professional player Anna-Lena Friedsam. But the events of 2021 presented the club with major challenges.

The flood disaster and its consequences

The devastating flood disaster in July 2021 devastated large parts of the Ahr region, which also severely affected TC Bad Bodendorf. The entire tennis facility was destroyed, the clubhouse was severely damaged and the facilities were destroyed. Only a few items could be saved. Many members lost their homes, and the board responded promptly with a public online donation account, the proceeds of which were intended to be used to rebuild the tennis facility. Every euro was of great importance back then, because the sports facilities play an essential role in the lives of the local people, as the club emphasized. [tc-badbodendorf.de]

The reconstruction of the facility took until autumn 2024. From the 2025 season, home games will be possible again in Bad Bodendorf. However, the challenges remain: the association is struggling with a decline in membership and a slump in youth work. To counteract this, new initiatives are being launched, such as trial courses for those interested and cooperation with primary schools in order to specifically strengthen youth support.

A look into the future

Despite the setbacks, TC Bad Bodendorf is optimistic about the future. The club currently only has a youth team, but the goal is clear: to increase the number of members. The new clubhouse, scheduled for completion in spring 2026, will be another step in the right direction and strengthen the community in the club. In addition to the sporting offerings, cohesion should also be promoted, because the TC Bad Bodendorf stands for community and commitment.

An emotional sign of reconstruction will also be the return of the renowned “Tennis Classics” tournament to Bad Neuenahr, which can now take place again after the flood disaster and the corona pandemic. More than 500 participants from all over Germany are expected, which should reach the level of previous years. The organization is entirely voluntary, and many helpers joined the association after the disaster. Anyone interested is warmly invited to visit and celebrate the games and the supporting program between July 22nd and August 3rd, 2025. [tagesschau.de]

The TC Bad Bodendorf shows that with solidarity and commitment, a new beginning is possible even after difficult times. The club's tradition lives on and the anticipation of the coming sporting challenges is palpable. The history of the club is not only one of sporting success, but also one of perseverance and a sense of community - values that are very important in Bad Bodendorf. [blick-aktuell.de]
