Bad Dürkheim: New thermal world opens its doors on November 19th!

In Bad Dürkheim, the heart of the Palatinate, the signs point to relaxation: on November 19, 2025, the new thermal and sauna world will open its doors. This project is considered one of the largest the city has ever seen. Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt emphasizes how important this project is for the entire region. The aim is to create a modern place that focuses on health and well-being.

An external trial operation started today, October 28, 2025, to put all processes and technical systems of the new facility through their paces. Peter Kistenmacher, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Bad Dürkheim, sees this step as the last important building block to ensure that everything runs smoothly at the opening.

Festive opening ceremony and insights for the public

The ceremonial opening begins on November 19th at 5 p.m. with invited guests and a varied supporting program. After the official ceremony, interested citizens are also invited to visit the thermal baths in street clothes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. An “open day” will follow on November 20th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. so that other residents of the city can take a look at the new oasis of well-being. Regular bathing and sauna operations start on November 21st at 9 a.m.

Investment in the future

There were many discussions in advance about the costs of the project. Originally calculated at 39 million euros, the entire project is now expected to cost 42.5 million euros. This increase results from an increase in the construction index of over 40% since construction began in 2020. The municipal utilities, which will cover a total of eight million euros in the costs, can, however, rely on a subsidy from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate amounting to 11.08 million euros. This relieves some of the financial burden that the city would otherwise have to bear.

The architectural design, which was presented by Ernst-Ullrich Tillmanns, not only impresses with its large glass surfaces that connect the building with the surrounding spa park, but also with the use of a lot of wood and natural stone look. A “Rieslinggold” band also runs around the building and extends into the bathing hall, creating an inviting atmosphere.

Overall, the city of Bad Dürkheim appears to be well prepared for the upcoming opening of the new thermal baths and sauna world. With a clear concept for relaxation and health as well as attractive architecture, the city will certainly be even more popular after the opening days. Bad Dürkheim becomes a place where you can not only relax and unwind, but also get new impulses for your health.
