Equality 2026: Exciting events for women in the Bad Dürkheim district
The equal opportunities officers of the Bad Dürkheim district and the Leiningerland/Grünstadt municipality have presented their annual program for 2026, which deals with various important issues of gender equality. Among the topics addressed are violence against women and girls, unequal pay and the lack of political participation for women. Particularly noteworthy is the large number of events that aim not only to provide information, but also to encourage participation and networking, such as: Rhine Palatinate reported.
The program includes a variety of free events, including an online lecture on parental leave and parental allowance, a senior breakfast with psychologist Stefanie Kreye-Kiefer about resilience in old age, and a reading with the author Katharina Linnepe. For those interested in cultural offerings, a cabaret duo entitled “Damenqual” will perform on International Women’s Day on March 8th in the Dürkheimer Haus. The wine and sparkling wine tasting event “Women's Crafts” with Janina Huber will also be exciting, which is intended to provide insights into female traditions in winemaking.
Focus topics of the program
One focus is on equal treatment of the sexes, which also plays a major role in working life. According to the Federal anti-discrimination agency The gender pay gap in Germany is around 16 percent, with around three quarters of these wage differences being explained by social structures. Women often work in lower-paying jobs and are less likely to find themselves in leadership positions. Discrimination, such as preventing advancement to higher positions, also contributes to inequality.
These inequalities and discrimination in the workplace are topics that should be discussed in the events. The annual program also offers an online lecture on artificial intelligence, which deals with the future of work in the context of gender equality. The traveling exhibition “What I wore”, which deals with experiences of sexual violence, will also form an important part of the program.
Events and further insights
Another highlight on offer is the games picnic for single parents and children in the Bad Dürkheim spa park. Here the community is promoted and the exchange between the participants is encouraged. In addition, insights into municipal facilities such as daycare centers are planned in order to offer girls and boys a realistic insight into different professional fields.
The entire program items up to the summer break and the continuation in September are available on the Bad Dürkheim district website. A strong signal towards equality is also sent through the commitment to the Girls' and Boys' Day campaign, which is intended to open up new perspectives for young people, especially in MINT careers. These professions are still very gender-segregated, as are the Federal Foundation for Equality determines.
The variety of events will help raise awareness of the issues of equality and equal opportunities in the region and ensure that women and girls have a place in society where they are not only heard but also seen.
