Salty tradition: Dürkheim Advent delights with new salt boiling!

The Dürkheim Advent was officially opened on November 28, 2025 and delights visitors with a magical market in Bad Dürkheim city center. The Advent market runs until December 21st and attracts visitors with festive activities on all four Advent weekends. Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt has put together a varied program that will delight both young and old.

Highlights in the Upper Kurpark include an impressive glow of lights that reinforces the winter atmosphere, as well as the popular curling and warming campfires on Römerplatz. Visitors can look forward to a delicious selection of winter hot drinks. Whether mulled wine or children's punch, there is something for every taste here.

Salt boiling and culinary delicacies

A special event took place on the first weekend of Advent when Dieter Petry from the Gradierbau e.V. association demonstrated the historic salt boiling process on an open wood fire. Original Dürkheim salt was obtained for the first time. Gerd Ester and Reinhold Uhrich, also members of the support association, were available to explain the intricacies of salt production to visitors. The observation of salt boiling at the new salt boiler rod in the Upper Kurpark was a real crowd puller, as rheinpfalz.de reports.

The stands have a lot to offer in terms of cuisine: from flamed salmon to lángos to sweet crepes - here you can feast on whatever your heart desires. Visitors can also try the newly established stands, such as the mulled wine Schubkarch stand and the “Golden Crispy Balls”, which provide variety with fried rice pudding balls.

Entertainment for the whole family

The Dürkheim Advent is not just for the adults, there is also a great program for the kids. Numerous activities such as craft activities in the yurt, a reading by the author Markus Orths, and the winter children's festival in the Haus Catoir cultural center offer variety and fun. A special highlight is the performance of the Wiggle Tooth Witch, which is already partially sold out.

Musical performances from ensembles from the town music school, the town band Bad Dürkheim as well as the dialect band “Woifeschdkänisch” and the acappella pop and jazz choir “VokalGenial” provide a touch of culture. But it won't be boring at the Hans-PfauHaus either, with the art Advent market on all four weekends - unique handmade pieces can be admired there.

The opening hours of the Advent market are Fridays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. From the second weekend in Advent, the stands will also open on Thursdays. Thanks to the different programs, the Advent market is alive and creates a cozy atmosphere that appeals to young and old alike. Consumers can also enjoy the return of the fair city chocolate “Bio Chocolat – Salty Caramel” with a photo motif of the castle church.

Dürkheim Advent is a contemplative place to linger and enjoy. Whether boiling salt or trying local specialties – everyone will find their place here. For further information about events and offers, it is worth taking a look at Bad Dürkheim's official website: bad-duerkheim.de.
