Hit-and-run in Kirn: Witnesses urgently sought after crash on Sulzbacher Straße!
On the night of July 12, 2025, there was a traffic accident in Kirn that raises many questions. At around 11:55 p.m., a Citroën was traveling on Sulzbacher Strasse and collided with several parked vehicles. The police describe the accident as a hit-and-run incident because the perpetrator left the scene of the accident without permission after the accident without taking care of the damage caused. According to initial estimates, this amounts to at least 10,000 euros. Investigations are already underway and the police are appealing to the public: Anyone who has information about who caused the accident or the vehicle involved can call 06752/1560. Information comes from a report from the Kirn police station published on July 12th at 1:47 a.m., providing a disturbing insight into the city's traffic situation.
What is road safety actually like in Kirn? In another incident in the city on April 9, 2025, which took place between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., a victim was confronted: After shopping, she noticed significant damage to the right side of her car after she parked it sideways in the parking lot of the shopping center on Kallenfelser Straße. The person responsible, who was driving a car with a trailer, also fled the scene of the accident. Here too, the police were asked for information from witnesses in order to clear up the case; another sign of the growing hit-and-run problem in the region.
Traffic accidents are on the agenda
Such accidents are not just an issue in Kirn. According to comprehensive statistics provided by the Federal Statistical Office, the recording of traffic accidents is of great importance in order to reliably assess the traffic safety situation in Germany. This data is necessary for measures in legislation, traffic education and road construction. They also help government transport policy, particularly with regard to infrastructure and road safety.
Unfortunately, current accidents show that in many places there is still a lack of sensitivity and responsibility in road traffic. Numerous accidents occur every year in which those responsible run away after the crime. These incidents not only put a strain on the vehicles, but also on the accident victims and their nerves. The city and police are relying on more traffic education to raise awareness and reduce the number of hit-and-runs.
Two recent examples from Kirn make it clear: hit-and-runs seem to be a recurring problem. It remains to be hoped that the authorities and citizens will work together to improve this unfortunate situation and make the streets safer.
