Full closure on B 428: This is how traffic will be diverted from June 30th!
Big changes are coming in Bad Kreuznach: From June 30, 2025, the B 428 will be fully closed for the four-lane expansion. The preparatory work for this began on June 23rd. Drivers must prepare for diversions and changes in traffic routing that will last until the fall. The Bad Kreuznach State Office for Mobility asks for your understanding of the disruption that will result from the construction work. Exactly how long the restrictions last may depend on the weather conditions, as the work can only be carried out when the weather is suitable.
A temporary roundabout will be set up near the garden center, while the island areas in the “Mainzer Straße” roundabout will be cleared. Road users coming from the B 41 and wanting to drive towards Bad Kreuznach or Frei-Laubersheim must enter the Grenzgraben and use one-way traffic to reach the new temporary roundabout. Traffic from Bad Kreuznach or Frei-Laubersheim is also routed via this roundabout. Drivers who have to go towards the commercial area or the B 41 will be guided safely to their destinations by new traffic signs and a traffic signal system.
Traffic routing and diversions
The complex traffic routing is made even more difficult by the closure of one direction of travel and the control by a traffic signal system during construction work. A bypass will be set up via the “Am Grenzgraben” street to the new temporary roundabout, so that access to and exit from the commercial and industrial area will also remain secure. For everyone who wants to go to the REWE market or the VIVA discotheque, it is possible to approach the commercial area from both sides, although the return journey can only be on the right.
What will be particularly noticeable is the bending right-of-way regulation that is linked to the “Mainzer Straße” roundabout. During the entire construction period, the connections to “Schwabenheimer Weg” and “Bosenheimer Straße” will be renovated over a total of two weekends, which may lead to further traffic restrictions. The adjustments are necessary to optimize the new, four-lane traffic flow in the region and to bring the traffic infrastructure to a modern, efficient level. This will not only reduce congestion and space problems in the city, but also help reduce air pollution and improve the quality of life.
Given that two-thirds of the world's population will live in cities by 2050, urban transport infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Measures to increase efficiency and increased attention to sustainable transport design are therefore essential. With regard to climate neutrality, the expansion of transport infrastructure will also be crucial in order to achieve the European climate goals. The State Office for Mobility will regularly inform citizens about the progress of the construction work and possible further restrictions.
