FDP MEETS: Inspiration in the Ahr Valley – wine, politics and community!
The first “FDP MEETS” event in the region badly affected by the flood took place on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in the picturesque Ahr Valley. Politically interested people from Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland were invited, and around 100 guests accepted the invitation. The event hall of the Dagernova Sektkellerei in Dernau was the right place for this exchange, which placed community and inspiration in the foreground, as aktiplan.de reports.
Christina Steinhausen, the deputy district chairwoman of the FDP Ahrweiler, welcomed the participants to the event. Prominent guests such as Daniela Schmitt, the Economics Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, and Philipp Fernis, the state's Minister of Justice, were enthusiastic about the symbolic power that the Ahr Valley offers: it stands for courage, cohesion and the strength to rebuild.
A varied program
The day began with a champagne reception in the Wollersheim sparkling wine factory, followed by an exciting look behind the scenes in the government bunker. A walk through the vineyards and a wine tasting at the Ahrweiler Winegrowers' Association were also not missed out. The program was rounded off with a shared dinner at the Ristorante Abbruzzo, where Italian cuisine awaited the participants. Christina Steinhausen and her team created a very inviting atmosphere, which was characterized by relaxed, cheerful and open-minded cooperation.
As blick-aktuell.de points out, the event was not just intended for party members. It also offered non-party members the opportunity to actively participate in shaping liberal policy. This underlines the FDP's desire to make politics more accessible and to promote a broad consensus in society.
An important review
Particular attention was also paid to the tragic flood disaster, which severely affected many residents of the Ahr Valley. During the event, a fundraiser for Lebenshilfe was also organized, because the fate of the 12 residents who lost their lives during the disaster must not be forgotten.
At the end of the welcome event, the Ahrweiler FDP district association drew a positive conclusion: The success of the event shows that politics can also be informal and inviting. The evening was a platform for exchange and networking, which is very much needed in this special region.
