Lilly's Global Day of Service: Children and the environment in focus in Alzey!
On September 25, 2025, it was that time again: employees of the pharmaceutical company Lilly got involved Global Day of Service in Alzey. Over 40 employees agreed to take part in three different projects. The focus was on promoting healthy lifestyles in the Walter Zuber daycare center and the Nibelungenschule as well as a garbage collection campaign.
The Walter Zuber daycare center welcomed the Lilly employees with a get-to-know-you session. Here the preschool children had the opportunity to get to know the dedicated employees better. A special attraction was the health quiz, which pointed out the three pillars of a healthy life – nutrition, exercise and relaxation – in a child-friendly way. The children were also able to express their creativity by preparing colorful bread faces with fresh vegetables and enjoyed yoga exercises to relax.
Strengthen sport and community
The Nibelungen School also made provisions to introduce the children to the topics of nutrition and exercise. Here, Lilly employees organized a breakfast together, followed by a quiz and a painting activity in which the children were able to creatively capture their ideas about healthy eating. The day was rounded off with a variety of exercise games designed to arouse interest in sporting activities.
Meanwhile, 15 hard-working helpers took part in a parallel garbage collection operation under a motorway bridge. Thanks to their efforts, they were able to collect numerous unwanted items, including packaging, clothing and even car headlights. “An entire trailer was filled,” one of the people involved reported proudly. The city's construction depot was responsible for the proper disposal, and Mayor Steffen Jung praised Lilly's social commitment and the excellent cooperation with the community.
A look at previous actions
Overall, it shows that Lilly not only has an eye on economic success, but also on a healthy society. As part of such initiatives, employees not only learn how important healthy eating and exercise are, but also how company health promotion can be actively practiced. Healthy eating is seen as a central concern - be it in the canteen or during such projects.
In Alzey, sustainability is not only very important, but also implemented in a lively manner. The ever-growing enthusiasm of the children and the commitment of the employees indicate that fertile ground is being laid here for future health topics.
