A breath of fresh air in social welfare: New students are getting started!

A breath of fresh air is blowing through youth, social and family welfare in the Cochem-Zell region: The two aspiring specialists, Vanessa Anhuth from Gerolstein and Lara Umbscheiden from Zemmer, have started their dual studies in the field of “Social Services” at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University. As already on blick-aktuell.de reports, the training supervisor Kathrin Müller welcomed the students in the district hall and gave them a comprehensive overview of the content of the course.

In the run-up to the official start of their studies, the two took part in introductory events organized by the district administration, which were used to introduce their new colleagues to the administration. District Administrator Ms. Beilstein warmly welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of social work in the region. Not only are theoretical knowledge imparted here, but practical experience is also gained in the various areas of administration.

Study content and practical phases

The dual course of study, which lasts three years, combines scientific theory with practical application. The students gain valuable insights into the areas of youth and family welfare, social services and social psychiatric services. The change between theory and practice is interesting: Lara Umbscheiden began her practical phase in general social services on October 1, 2025, while Vanessa Anhuth is spending the first theoretical phase at the university until the end of the year. Both will complete their studies with a Bachelor of Arts and state recognition.

Challenges in wastewater treatment

It is also important to keep track of organizations and services when it comes to providing information and support. However, sometimes there may be a certain “ Obfuscation ". In plain language: information flows can become confusing if different institutions pull together to find solutions. Confusion and disagreement can have a negative impact on the households affected.

The region therefore emphasizes the need for clear exchange and cooperation in order to effectively address the challenges in social work and wastewater treatment. Especially in times when the issues of social assistance and infrastructure are becoming increasingly pressing, it is important that young professionals like Vanessa Anhuth and Lara Umbscheiden help shape the future of social services.
