Winnweiler celebrates 125 years of the nursing association - commitment that unites!
An important legacy is maintained in the Winnweiler Evangelical Nursing Association, which is celebrating its proud 125th anniversary this year. Under the committed leadership of Regina Mayer-Oelrich, who has been in charge since 2015, the association is not only a cornerstone of the community, but also an important contact point for those in need of care and their relatives. Mayer-Oelrich was recently awarded the Diakonie's Crown Cross in Gold for her outstanding volunteer work. This honor not only reflects their personal achievements, but also the great value that the association's work has for the entire region.
Regina Mayer-Oelrich recently discovered the association's first official entry in the association register, which marks the long year 1900. This find illustrates the traditional roots and stability of the association, which forms a lively and active community with around 300 members. Membership is advantageous because it brings numerous savings on privately financed care services. Members also benefit from body-related care measures that can be accessed without a waiting list. An annual fee of just 25 euros enables all citizens to become part of this important network.
Donate to the social station
The current initiative of the Evangelical Nursing Association has resulted in a donation of 550 euros to the social station in Rockenhausen. This support was used to purchase a new extractor hood in the day care. Mayer-Oelrich emphasizes the importance of this facility, especially for people suffering from dementia. The day care, which is offered from Monday to Thursday, has specialized professionals on board and ensures that participants have a loving and safe environment. Due to the pandemic, the capacity is currently limited to four visitors. The daily flat rate of 90 euros includes not only care but also meals, thus offering comprehensive care.
Volunteer help is needed
Numerous volunteers work in the background and are becoming increasingly important as valuable support in care. Germany is facing a nursing shortage as society ages and needs more support. These volunteers not only relieve the burden on professional staff, but also offer much-needed relaxation to the caring relatives. According to information from ppm-online.de, 1.5 million people in Germany suffer from dementia, two thirds of whom are cared for at home. Volunteer companions can be of enormous help through regular visits and help to improve the quality of life of those affected.
For many relatives of dementia sufferers, the commitment of these helpers means real relief. They often experience psychological and physical stress as care can be very challenging. Support from volunteers enables relatives to recover and recharge their batteries. Training for these helpers is important so that they can meet the requirements and provide the best possible support to their patients.
The impressive work of the Winnweiler Evangelical Nursing Association and the valuable contributions of volunteers are rays of hope in a challenging time. Combined with a strong community and a deep local tradition, the association offers a significant offering for the people of the region. Everyone is invited to get involved—be it through membership, active participation or donations to support the work of the association.
