Mood of crisis in Hatzenbühl: Eichenauer is planning further layoffs!
The situation at the Eichenauer company in Hatzenbühl is tense, as the specialist for electrical heating systems has been in protective shield proceedings since June 2025. How Mercury reports that the company, which was founded in Kandel in 1925, laid off 50 of its 200 employees before filing for bankruptcy. That makes up a quarter of the workforce and illustrates the difficult situation.
A restructuring plan has been drawn up, but the measures taken so far do not seem to be sufficient to bring about a turnaround. The employees were informed at the beginning of July about further necessary layoffs. The works council is active and keeps the workforce informed about developments while discussions are underway to implement the layoffs in a socially acceptable manner.
The Hatzenbühl location will remain
Despite the currently difficult conditions, there is no possibility of closing the Hatzenbühl location. Eichenauer would like to maintain core operations, but this depends heavily on the order situation. Parts of production have been relocated to the Czech Republic to reduce costs, which brings both opportunities and challenges.
As part of the restructuring plan, an M&A process will also be initiated to find potential investors or cooperation partners. The aim is to secure the location and create new perspectives for the company. The trick now is to have a good knack for landing the right partners and mastering the necessary steps to get back on the road to success.
