Rhineland-Palatinate is investing 20 million in modern student housing!
A positive step for the students in Kaiserslautern! How News KL reports, FDA Studentenwohnheime GmbH & Co. eGbR has received a generous funding decision to initiate the modernization of an important student residence on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße. In the coming months, 208 climate-friendly living spaces will be created here that are tailored to the needs of young people.
Finance and Construction Minister Doris Ahnen and Alexandra Wüst from ISB customer service were pleased with the development when the decision was handed over. “The modernization is necessary in order to meet modern standards and at the same time protect the environment,” says Ahnen. The Lise Meitner dormitory, which has offered students a roof over their heads since 1982, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation after more than 40 years.
High demand meets climate-friendly solutions
The demand for affordable housing for students is particularly high in university locations such as Kaiserslautern. The latest funding boost from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which amounts to around 20.6 million euros, comes at exactly the right time. With an additional repayment subsidy of around 7 million euros, the “Young Living” project is intended to improve the living conditions for students and trainees. ISB explains that the project not only aims to create living space, but also focuses on renewable energy and the Energy Efficiency Standard 85.
“This is an important step towards creating modern and affordable housing for our young people,” emphasizes Wüst. The apartments are earmarked for 20 years and therefore offer long-term security for future residents.
Funding for sustainable housing
The housing support program was created specifically to support the modernization of student halls of residence from a sustainable perspective. Because the Investment and Structural Bank Rhineland-Palatinate (ISB) provides funding, the planned projects in Rhineland-Palatinate can be realized. On average, such projects receive funding of 300,000 euros, which is good business, especially for non-profit organizations.
The modernization in Kaiserslautern is not only a benefit for the students, but also a real step towards a greener future. This shows once again that sustainability should be at the top of the list when planning and executing residential projects.
