Symposium on trauma education: New paths for specialists in Koblenz!

An important event in the world of trauma education is approaching: a specialist symposium on this topic will take place at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences on September 26, 2025. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., interested parties and professionals from the fields of education, social work, medicine and many other areas can meet in room A032 to exchange ideas and learn new things. The organizer is the Master's program in Childhood and Social Sciences (MAKS) at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. The participation fee is 60 euros; participation is free for students and employees of the Department of Social Sciences. Further information and registration can be found on the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences website.

The symposium offers an exciting program with keynote speeches from renowned speakers. Among other things, Heiner van Mil (M.A.) will talk about how people affected by trauma can be perceived as experts. Prof. Dr. Regina Steil sheds light on psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorders, while Prof. Dr. Johannes Drerup addresses the role of democracy education in the context of disasters. These lectures are not only informative, but also invite discussion and reflection.

Focus on trauma education

But what exactly is trauma education? According to Koblenz University, after further training in this area, specialists should be able to design safe living environments for traumatized children and implement trauma-sensitive care concepts. This is particularly important in inpatient youth welfare, where young people need to be supported in regulating their emotions and promoting their self-efficacy.

Trauma education can also provide decisive impetus in educational institutions. The aim here is to promote security and stability in everyday school life and to advise teachers on how to deal with trauma-related behavior. This specialty is also used in crisis intervention, for example through acute support after stressful events or the stabilization of those affected.

Further training to become a specialist consultant

In-depth training is essential. The FIFAP offers an extensive curriculum that includes between 120 and 150 teaching units. This further training aims to train specialists in trauma education and trauma-centered specialist counseling and to prepare them for the challenges in their everyday work. The content is based on the latest scientific findings and consists of theoretical and practical elements.

Trauma education and the associated specialist advice focus on stabilization in order to help those affected to process their trauma themselves. This approach differs from trauma-centered psychotherapy, which focuses on working through. The curriculum was first developed between 2001 and 2003 and has continued to evolve since then to meet the needs of professionals.

For everyone who is interested in the topics of trauma education and psychotraumatological help, the specialist symposium in Koblenz is an excellent opportunity to gain insights and make valuable contacts. When working with those affected, an interdisciplinary approach and strong networking are often required - so that everyone gets what they need in the end.
