Münster loses a nerve-racking duel against Koblenz 69:81!
On Monday evening, the Uni Baskets Münster team was on the floor in the EPG Arena Koblenz and was determined to turn things around. But like so often lately, it wasn't to be. The Münster team lost against EPG Baskets Koblenz 69:81 and thus threw away another chance of victory in the third of the last four games. It was the third loss in just ten days, the last game having already ended against the Bayer Giants Leverkusen and the RheinStars Cologne. The physiognomic prospect of relegation in the 2nd Bundesliga Pro A is becoming increasingly bleak, especially after a last game that frustrated fans and players alike.
The game initially started promisingly for the Uni Baskets. In the first quarter they were ahead 7:17. But the Koblenz team remained stubborn and ended the quarter only two points behind (15:17). From the second quarter onwards, however, Münster had to accept the deficit after a tenth turnover initiated the turnaround and the hosts took the lead (28:25). The Koblenz team started the third quarter with a halftime score of 37:33 and it was a constant back and forth. After an impressive phase in which the Uni Baskets went on a 12:2 run, they suddenly found themselves in the front with 39:45.
Turning points and crucial mistakes
The game remained exciting until the last minute, with frequent changes in the lead and an interim score of 56:61 for the Münster team. Unfortunately, that was the moment when the Uni Baskets lost their sovereignty. The 17 turnovers they allowed contributed significantly to their defeat. Nick McMullen was the standout player for Munster, scoring 22 points, followed by Julian Larry with 18 points. The Koblenz team's balanced team performance stood out, with a rate of 52% for two-pointers and a solid free throw rate of 73%.
