Serious accident on the B42: 16-year-old injured, driver arrested!
On Friday evening, September 5, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on Rheinstrasse, B42, in Vallendar at around 10:10 p.m. A 16-year-old motorcyclist from the Mayen-Koblenz district was traveling at excessive speed when he collided with a car driven by a 25-year-old who was turning out of a driveway onto the B42. In this head-on collision, the young cyclist sustained serious but fortunately non-life-threatening injuries and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital [Rhein-Zeitung].
Due to the accident, the B42 had to be temporarily completely closed while rescue workers and the Bendorf police station were on site. The witness to the incident reported that the motorcyclist was apparently traveling too fast, which expands the investigation to possible road traffic hazards and negligent bodily harm. During the identity check of the car driver, an arrest warrant was also discovered, which is why he was arrested after the accident investigation was completed.
Previous incidents on the B42
The B42 was not the only scene of a serious accident that evening. A similar incident occurred at the Bendorf Nord exit on April 3, 2023. A 21-year-old cyclist lost control of his motorcycle as he wanted to leave the federal highway and collided head-on with a car that was trying to get onto the B42 towards Vallendar. Here, too, there were serious injuries, but the motorcyclist's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. His motorcycle caught fire during the accident, resulting in a fire department call-out. The material damage amounted to around 10,000 euros, and the junction had to be closed for around two hours, as noted in the reports from lokalo.de.
Traffic accidents in the focus of statistics
Such accidents are part of a worrying trend documented in official traffic accident statistics. According to Destatis, comprehensive data on accidents, people involved and the causes are collected there. These statistics are not only essential for analyzing the causes of accidents, they also create the basis for future measures in traffic safety policy and road construction.
The sad reality is that traffic accidents like this happen all the time. It is all the more important that both traffic education and the infrastructure are continuously improved in order to prevent such tragedies in the future.
