Chris Jarrett inspires with a charity concert in Wollmesheim!
Next Sunday, January 21, 2026, the Protestant church in Wollmesheim will experience a very special event: The benefit concert with the renowned organist and composer Chris Jarrett starts at 5 p.m. and is all about supporting the Wollmesheim church building association. The association is collecting donations for the urgently needed renovation of the oldest church in the Palatinate, and the concert series has already aroused a lot of interest. [Rheinpfalz] reports that admission is free, but donations are welcome.
For his concert, Jarrett prepared the improvisational performance “New Journeys.” This unique performance presents a sophisticated improvisation on the Führer organ that impresses with its uniqueness. Since 2014, Jarrett has been experimenting with the various possibilities of the organ, which always makes his concerts a fresh experience. [KulturNett] adds that no ticket purchase or reservations are necessary, which makes the event particularly accessible.
Artist and his work
Chris Jarrett is not only a virtuoso pianist, but also a music lecturer at the University of Mainz. He occasionally gives concerts with his wife, the pianist Martina Cukrov Jarrett. His more recent works include the “Hölderlin Songs,” the project “16 English Songs” for baritone and piano, and his most highly regarded work to date, “New Journeys.” Jarrett has made a name for himself for his ability to transport listeners to new worlds of sound with his music.
Another highlight will take place on Friday, January 30th, when Jarrett will perform at 7 p.m. in the Landauer Stiftskirche at the invitation of the Rotary Club of Bad Bergzabern. Tickets are available for this concert, which cost 20 euros and can be purchased in advance at the Haus des Sehs in Landau and at the Südpfalz-Apotheke in Bad Bergzabern. At this concert feast he will perform works such as “Tales of our times” as well as his improvisational pieces. [Rhine Palatinate]
Context of the benefit concerts
The benefit concert in Wollmesheim is not the only one in the region that supports church building and musical traditions. A concert by Markus Eichenlaub will also take place in the St. Jakobuskirche on October 4, 2025, with donations going towards the renovation of the Vleugel organ. This magnificent instrument will be restored between November 2024 and January 2025 by the Vleugels organ manufacturer. Eichenlaub, who has been the cathedral organist in Speyer's Imperial and Mariendom since 2010, will perform works by composers such as Rameau, Bach and Mendelssohn. [Schifferstadt Parish]
The promotion of church music and the preservation of historical buildings are also the focus of Chris Jarrett's concert in Wollmesheim. Such events not only strengthen culture, but also send a strong signal to the community that cares about its traditional places and its music. Be there and support the good cause! Take a look at the programs and enjoy the sounds that bring the churches of this region to life!
