Big typing campaign for Isabella: Everyone can save lives!
A special kind of appeal reaches the people of Landau. 18-year-old Isabella is currently battling leukemia in the clinic and urgently needs a stem cell donation from a genetic twin. Despite her ten siblings, no suitable donor could be found in the family. In order to support Isabella's hope for successful treatment, the Blut.ev association is organizing a typing campaign together with her family and friends.
This important day of action will take place on Saturday, July 12th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Graf Hardenberg car dealership at Nußdorfer Heide 1 in Landau. In order to get typed, those interested come into play with two cotton swabs - a simple and proven process that does not involve any health risks.
Tip for future lifesavers
In order to be included in the global database, personal data must be provided when registering in the laboratory. The conditions for participation are clear: people between the ages of 17 and 45 who do not have any serious underlying illnesses and are not already registered with another organization are warmly invited to take part. There is no need to register in advance; access to the typing campaign is free.
But the topic of stem cell donation is not only being raised in Landau. There is also a positive trend in Austria: the proportion of people who were typecast increased from 3.2% to 3.6% last year. Currently, 330,000 people in Austria have already been typed as potential stem cell donors. Every year in this country around 300 people suffering from blood cancer wait for a life-saving stem cell donation. However, the probability of finding a suitable donor is only around 90% for those affected, while 10% cannot find a suitable donor.
Together for a good cause
Typing is simple and painless and could save the lives of many people. It takes place either at a typing campaign or online, where a free typing set for home use can be requested. As a rule, stem cells are obtained from blood in 90% of cases and from bone marrow in 10%. If you are interested in typing, you can read about it on the Stefan Morsch Foundation website here.
This call for typing is not just a local event, but a sign of solidarity for all blood cancer patients. Let us stick together and give Isabella and many other affected people a chance at life. Visit the typing campaign in Landau and become a potential lifesaver - we can all have the courage to do that.
