Carnival magic in the Landau town hall: follies celebrate the fifth season!

A happy reception in the Landau town hall, which made the anticipation of the fifth season palpable: On January 20, 2026, carnival clubs and crazy people gathered in the historic site to really get started with the upcoming carnival celebrations. Councilor Lena Dürphold warmly welcomed the guests and emphasized the honorable commitment of the numerous participants, who keep the carnival tradition alive with their commitment and enthusiasm.

As part of the event, donations amounting to 111 euros each were presented to three carnival clubs that had distinguished themselves through remarkable achievements. From funds from the Sparkasse Südpfalz Foundation, the clubs received:

  • Landauer Carnevalverein Narrhalla e.V.
  • Godramsteiner Karnevalverein „Die Bachstelze“
  • Landauer Carneval Club 1965 e.V.

Dürphold also highlighted the variety of performances that characterize the carnival: from sporting performances to depictions of childhood heroes to rousing musicals. The youth princess Jana I and the prince couple Wiebke I and Jan I proudly presented medals to the members of the city council, which only added to the festive mood.

Carnival traditions in Germany

Carnival, also known as Fastnacht or Mardi Gras, attracts millions of people to the streets every year and puts everyone in a good mood. The highlight of these colorful festivities traditionally falls on the week before Ash Wednesday. Especially in cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz, the events are an absolute must. Here, fools and jesters can enjoy the Rose Monday procession, which, with its magnificent floats and rousing music bands, makes the heart of every carnival lover beat faster.

In Cologne, for example, the fool's cry “Kölle Alaaf!” can be heard loudly during celebrations, while in Mainz the exclamation “Helau!” echoes through the streets. Preparations for this year's carnival season in Landau are already in full swing. The most important dates for the 2025 carnival season have been set:
