Landau is planning major renovations for the La Ola swimming pool!

The city of Landau in der Pfalz has big plans for the popular La Ola leisure pool. In an initial conversation with the state government, which recently took place at the Ministry of the Interior, Mayor Dominik Geißler and the management of the city holding company, consisting of Martin Messemer and Daniel Zacher, emphasized the need for a comprehensive renovation of the pool. According to the Rheinpfalz report, a possible subsidy from the state government is being discussed in order to advance modernization.

The administration has so far estimated that the renovation will cost around 23 million euros. Two variants are being considered for the necessary modifications. The first option involves building an additional 16.6 meter teaching pool, while the second option involves a larger 25 meter pool that could be used more by swimmers. These alternatives could not only increase the attractiveness of the bathroom, but also offer the opportunity to attract more users.

Importance of the leisure pool

La Ola has established itself as a central leisure and sports facility for the city of Landau and the entire region. The state government has recognized the relevance of the pool and is currently examining options for financial support to ensure the long-term security of this important facility. Feedback on the funding application is expected by the end of the summer holidays, which is of great importance for the city.

The current situation shows that the city holding company is still actively present in La Ola and the outdoor pool and is looking forward to many visitors. The leisure pool offers school and club swimming as well as relaxing bathing experiences for the entire family, thus contributing to the quality of life in Landau.

Federal funding for sports facilities

As part of the nationwide funding for the energy-efficient renovation of municipal facilities, as is also being sought in Landau, 400 million euros are available this year. This is revealed by a current report from bmwsb, which presents a program to support sports, youth and cultural institutions. The need for renovation is particularly high for swimming pools and sports halls, as they are intended to contribute to improving social cohesion and social integration.

The requirements for the renovation include high energy standards, which should also apply to La Ola's future plans. The aim is, for example, to achieve a climate-neutral heat supply and a reduction in resource consumption in outdoor swimming pools. The deadline for submitting projects is September 15, 2023, which underlines the urgency of discussions between the city and the country.

It will be interesting to see how the plans develop and whether Landau can ultimately benefit from the financial support needed to make La Ola fit for the future.
