Wasp attack at the Energy Southwest Cup: Runner desperate!

Autumn has arrived, and with it the exciting competitions as part of the 26th Energy Southwest Cup. The fourth run in Göcklingen on September 29, 2025 was one of the liveliest events since 2019. In the midst of the action, no participant let their mood be spoiled, even if wasps caused one or two discomforts. These little pests caused an unusual scenario after the 5 km run: numerous runners found themselves with ice packs and cold water to relieve the pain of wasp stings, as the Rheinpfalz reports.

But despite the unpleasant side effects of the competition, the atmosphere was incomparable. Lorenz Herrmann was able to move to the front of the field and made a clear statement. Fast times were not uncommon during the race, and it is rumored that the pressure pushed the participants to perform at their best. The starting signal for the 10 km route was given promptly at 10 a.m. and the energy was palpable.

Number of participants and general conditions

The event attracted a variety of clubs from the region, including clubs from Landau, Dammheim, Nußdorf, Offenbach, Göcklingen, Birkweiler, Albersweiler and Siebeldingen. The organizers had prepared everything perfectly. Participation numbers were pleasingly high, which is a good sign for the enthusiasm for sports in the region. The organizers were happy about the field with the largest number of participants since 2019, as can be read on Runtix.

Interestingly, the organizers were able to rely on well-established logistics. Registration was quick and uncomplicated, and the various runs offered something for the whole family. Whether it was the Bambini run, the school run or the classic 5 km and 10 km fun runs – there was something for everyone. The entry fees were moderate and fair, which contributed to the strong response.

Health and sport

Sports games such as running not only have a positive effect on physical fitness, but also on psychological well-being. Around 70 percent of Germans rate their health situation as good or very good. Participation in competitions such as the Energy Southwest Cup is not only a sign of sporting activity, but also a preventive measure for health. According to the WHO, lack of exercise could have devastating consequences in the near future: by 2030, almost 35 percent of the world's population could be inactive.

So it's no wonder that more and more people are lacing up their running shoes again to compete with like-minded people or simply to do sports for the sake of their health. Almost 80 percent of Germans do sport to promote health, and it is to be hoped that this trend will continue. Above all, the commitment and community building in the region keep the enthusiasm alive.

The next event as part of the Energy Southwest Cup will take place on April 28, 2024 in Landau. The anticipation for future events is already palpable.
