Heinigstrasse entrance closed from Monday – diversion for road users!
From Monday, October 27, 2025, the Heinigstrasse entrance to Hochstrasse Nord (B44) in the direction of Mannheim will be temporarily closed. This measure, which is expected to last until November 7, 2025, is necessary in order to continue the repair work on the transition structure and thus ensure traffic safety. The work was originally planned for May 2025, but had to be postponed due to unexpected damage that required a complete replacement of the supporting structure. Longer construction times are expected as the condition of the structures requires more extensive renovation work than initially assumed. In addition, weather conditions such as heavy rainfall or frost could affect the timely opening of traffic, as MRN News reported.
A diversion will be set up for traffic in the direction of Mannheim. The diversion takes place via the entrance onto the Hochstraße Nord in the direction of Bad Dürkheim, and an exit at the Bruchwiesen junction is also planned. The possibility of accessing Bruchwiesenstraße remains. In addition, the ramps to and from the pylon bridge (B37) are expected to be opened to traffic at the end of November 2025; These ramps have been closed to traffic since March 2025.
Construction work and its impact on traffic
The construction work is part of a larger project to improve the transport infrastructure in Germany. In this context, also the renovation work on the Hochstraße Süd (B37), which is scheduled to be reopened in the second quarter of 2026. The entire route from the A650 to the Konrad-Adenauer-Bridge will be renewed. The destinations in the city center and Mannheim remain accessible via the Hochstraße Nord (B44). In addition, the passage from Mundenheimer Straße to Berliner Platz will be reopened from October 27, 2025; Trams and buses can then return to the Berliner Platz stop.
This extensive renovation work is part of a larger program to increase road safety and the efficiency of road traffic in Germany. According to BMV, Germany is facing the challenge of modernizing its transport infrastructure, with many bridges dating from the period between 1960 and 1985. The increase in heavy traffic and the age of the bridges require comprehensive maintenance and modernization measures.
Public transport and diversions
Additional restrictions on local public transport and road traffic at Berliner Platz and Mundenheimer Straße already existed from October 11th to 26th, 2025. These were necessary due to construction and track work by Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv), which have now been completed. Road users are asked to use the designated diversions and prepare for possible inconveniences. It is important to remain vigilant and consider alternative routes as traffic conditions may also change unexpectedly during this construction work.
At the same time, the city administration is also repairing the roadway of the pylon bridge and installing new safety barriers. These measures are crucial to ensure the safety of road users and ensure the longevity of this important infrastructure.
