Construction work disrupts train traffic between Mainz and Koblenz – find out now!

From January 2, 2026, travelers on the RB26 train line between Mainz and Koblenz will face some challenges. Due to extensive construction work, there will be restrictions during this period that will have a significant impact on regional traffic. The Rhine Palatinate reports timetable deviations and even train cancellations on selected trips that will last until January 11, 2026.

Affected travelers must be particularly prepared for the cancellation of trains between Mainz Central Station and Bingen Central Station. There will be stop cancellations on various sections of the route, including the routes between Koblenz main station and Bingen main station and between Bingen and Mainz main station. A replacement rail service will be set up for all those who rely on the train. This is intended to ensure that passengers are not left out in the rain and can still get to their destinations.

Construction work and complications

The most intensive construction work concerns the regional train line RB 26, which runs between Koblenz and Mainz. According to information from Railway blog post Passengers may have to switch to buses or alternative trains in the near future. Particularly highlighted are the sections between Mainz main station and Mainz-Mombach, as well as between Bingen main station and Koblenz main station in both directions.

The construction work will not only have an impact on train operations in January, but also in May 2026. From May 2nd, a further restriction in this transport area is expected, which will last until May 9th. Particularly important are the new functionalities of the KOMBau application, which make it possible to easily access detailed information on availability restrictions, diversion routes and forecast capacity utilization. However, anyone who uses the KOMBau platform must register with a customer number in order to gain access to all relevant information.
