Dramatic attack in Mundenheim: 17-year-old threatened with knife!
On Saturday evening, December 29, 2025, a 17-year-old was the victim of an attack in Mundenheim. According to a report from Rheinpfalz, the incident occurred at 10:35 p.m. on Fürstenstrasse when the young man got off the number 6 tram at the “Schillerschule” stop. Suddenly he was attacked from behind by an unknown perpetrator and threatened with a knife.
The attacker demanded money, but the victim only had five euros with him, which he handed over. The perpetrator then let go of him and the teenager was able to escape to safety. He immediately called the police, who are now asking for information about the attacker, who is around 18 years old, 1.80 meters tall and dressed in dark clothing and wearing a balaclava. Information can be reported by calling 0621 963-24150 or by email to piludwigshafen1@polizei.rlp.de.
Violence among young people is increasing
These incidents highlight the growing youth crime in Germany. Police crime statistics for 2024 show an increase in violent crimes among young people. The President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, Holger Münch, states that the increase in violence is not just a catch-up phenomenon after the corona pandemic. In fact, experts report a decline in the total number of suspects, while violence rates are increasing.
What is particularly worrying is that a total of 31,383 young people between the ages of 14 and 18 were suspected of committing crimes in 2024, which corresponds to an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the previous year. A criminologist, Dirk Baier, notes that the social changes and psychological stress caused by the Corona measures have led to an increased willingness to use violence among younger people.
Investigations after knife attack
The police in Mundenheim are also confronted with another violent incident: On December 9, 2025, a 17-year-old attacked his 30-year-old brother-in-law with a knife in his apartment. The man had to undergo emergency surgery, but fortunately his life was not in danger. The young attacker was caught shortly after the crime and now has to answer for grievous bodily harm and attempted murder. During a search of his apartment, evidence was seized, including a cell phone and two knives. Whether one of them is the instrument of the crime is currently being investigated.
The incident not only has legal consequences, but also raises questions about security in the region. At a time when violent situations among young people are increasing, the discussion about the age of criminal responsibility is being reignited. Experts emphasize the need for social-educational approaches and preventive measures to prevent such acts in the future.
Cologne is therefore not alone when it comes to the challenges of juvenile crime. The current incidents in Mundenheim are another example of how the issue of violence among young people is more urgent than ever. It remains to be hoped that the authorities can model non-violent behavior for young people and thus have a lasting positive influence.
