Experience the Muralu bike tour: discover art and culture in Ludwigshafen!
On Wednesday, July 2nd, the city of Ludwigshafen invites you to a fascinating bike tour that is entirely dedicated to the impressive MURALU wall painting series. This event is organized by the tourist information office of the city marketing company Lukom together with the Office for Urban Affairs, Quaer, and the renowned Wilhelm Hack Museum. The tour begins at 5 p.m. at the Tourist Information Office at Berliner Platz 1 and is free for all participants. Registration is required and can be done either by email to tourist-info@lukom.com or by telephone on 0621 512036.
The MURALU initiative, which has existed under the umbrella of the Wilhelm Hack Museum since 2018, aims to enrich the urban landscape of Ludwigshafen with colorful wall art. The name is made up of “Mural” (wall painting) and “LU” for Ludwigshafen, and is actively supported by BASF SE. MURALU features both regional and international street artists who bring the city to life with their large-format creative works. A central goal of the project is to actively involve different population groups in the creative process of urban design.
Artistic highlights
The bike tour offers the opportunity to discover numerous remarkable works of art. This includes, for example, Sebastian Müh's design with abstract geometric shapes that can be found in the Bürgerhofpassage. The artist QUAER also created an abstract city map of Ludwigshafen with his work on Berliner Platz. Other notable projects include the geometric zigzag stripes by Lang/Baumann on Karl-Kornmann-Platz and the dynamic representation of raccoons in the TWL transformer house by SVLECH.
The MURALU project has emerged as an essential part of urban cultural development in Ludwigshafen and gives artists a platform to present their works on an equal footing with the city's population. Many of these murals, such as the hyperrealistic nymph by Natalia Rak or the fairytale scenes by LIMOW, not only invite you to marvel, but also to think about social issues such as climate change and urban living environments.
Invitation to discovery
The upcoming bike tour is a wonderful opportunity to explore the diversity and creativity of Ludwigshafen's urban art. The organizers expect participants of all ages and emphasize that both art enthusiasts and cycling enthusiasts are welcome to discover together the inspiration that can be found on the city's walls. So pack your bikes and get ready for an unforgettable experience in Ludwigshafen - because there is a lot to discover at MURALU!
