Political summit at Lanz: Debates about Merz and integration on October 29th.

On October 29, 2025, the popular talk show “Markus Lanz” on ZDF will once again invite exciting conversation partners to the table. Since 2008, Markus Lanz has moderated the show, which is broadcast regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and usually lasts 75 minutes. Especially after the Corona crisis, the focus has increasingly shifted to political issues, which underlines the current debate about social challenges in German cities.

One of the guests of the upcoming edition is Thorsten Frei, the head of the Chancellery (CDU), who will explain the controversial “cityscape” statement by Chancellor Merz. The conversation is supplemented by Karina Mößbauer, the chief political correspondent for “The Pioneer”, who analyzes the internal discussion within the CDU about this statement. The non-party mayor of Ludwigshafen, Jutta Steinruck, will also have her say and criticize the Chancellor's statements.

Diversity of opinions

Another exciting discussion partner will be Boris Palmer, the non-party mayor of Tübingen, who assesses the debate about Merz's statements positively. This shows how diverse opinions are on current political issues. Belit Onay, the mayor of Hanover (Greens), will also speak about the integration of refugees and calls for an “integration turbo”, which will further fuel the discussion.

“Markus Lanz” is broadcast regularly between 10:45 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. and is also available as a live stream in the ZDF media library. Viewers can watch the show on a time-delay basis for up to a month after broadcast, allowing audiences not to miss any of the diverse perspectives.

With this exciting round of guests, the show hopes to provide valuable insights into Germany's current political challenges and encourage viewers to actively engage with these issues. It will be exciting to see what further political discussions will arise over the course of the show. The diversity of views clearly shows that something is happening in German politics.
