Shock accident on the BAB 6: rescue helicopter in action!
A serious traffic accident on the BAB 6 is causing significant traffic disruptions in the region. On Tuesday morning, January 15th, 2026, there was a serious collision at around 9:45 a.m. between the Sinsheim and Wiesloch/Rauenberg junctions in the direction of Mannheim. The vehicles involved were a minibus, a Porsche and two tractor-trailers.
According to initial information, the driver of the minibus, a 40-year-old man, wanted to overtake a tractor-trailer and moved into the left lane to do so. There was a collision with the Porsche, which was also in this lane. The minibus driver then tried to move back into the middle lane and hit another tractor-trailer with full force. The impact caused a tire on the tractor-trailer to burst and its rear bumper tore off, which ultimately led to another leak in the diesel tank of a neighboring tractor-trailer. Diesel fuel leaked, which further aggravated the situation.
Rescue workers on duty
The accident site was immediately secured by the police, fire brigade and rescue services. Fortunately, the minibus driver only suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for further examination. A rescue helicopter was called in to provide support, but was able to take off again without a patient. The two tractor-trailers and the minibus had to be towed away, while the Porsche driver was able to continue his journey.
As a result, there was a massive backlog of up to 10 kilometers and the road in the direction of Mannheim was completely closed. The estimated material damage amounts to around 80,000 euros, but the exact details of the accident are still being clarified. The police have announced that they will provide further information as soon as it becomes available to shed light on the background to the incident. This information was provided by the journalists of the Wochenblatt Reporter, who already provided information about the situation on site in an earlier report and will continue to monitor the current situation.
It looks like it remains to be seen how long the traffic situation will remain tense. Drivers in the region should prepare for further disruption and use possible diversions until the scene of the accident has been cleared. Stay tuned for follow-up coverage already announced.
