Repair instead of throwing away: Repair Café in Stadecken-Elsheim opens!
Next Saturday, July 12th, the Repair Café of the senior citizens' advisory board of the Nieder-Olm municipality will open its doors in the Selztalhalle in Stadecken-Elsheim. From 10 a.m., visitors can bring in their defective devices and have them repaired free of charge. The last acceptance of items for repair is until 12.30 p.m., while the promotion runs until 1.30 p.m. The repair assistance is a generous offer of volunteers who are available to provide help and advice.
In recent years, the idea of repair cafés has become more and more widespread. Originally founded in the Netherlands in 2009 as a counter-movement to planned obsolescence, these events aim to extend the life of devices and minimize resource consumption. Instead of always buying new products, you can have defective household appliances, bicycles, computers and much more repaired, thereby reducing waste and saving costs. Over the years, a positive community of volunteers has formed who contribute their professional knowledge.

The path to volunteering
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the Repair Café organizers directly. Currently we are primarily looking for people with specialist knowledge in the areas of textiles, electrical devices and bicycles. It is also possible to keep the website up to date and support the Repair Café on social media, as described on the repaircafe.org website.
