At dusk on September 20, 2025, a worrying incident occurred on the B9 towards Mainz, more precisely in the Landskrongalerie roundabout. As news.de reports, several witnesses became aware of the unusual driving behavior of a silver VW Passat. The 86-year-old driver appeared to be in a confused state and drove into the roundabout without braking, even though two vehicles had the right of way there. Thanks to fortunate circumstances and the quick reaction of the other drivers, a serious accident was just avoided.
After the incident, the driver, who was possibly under the influence of medication, was taken to the Oppenheim police station. There the police took a blood sample and confiscated his driver's license. The vehicle keys were also taken into custody. Criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic were initiated and the driving license office was informed of the events. The driver was then picked up by family members, which shows that the matter was not without consequences for his loved ones.
