Massive protests in Bad Dürkheim: AfD event surrounded by demos!

An exciting weekend was on the agenda in Bad Dürkheim when the AfD on Saturday, January 17, 2026, to the election campaign event in the Salierhalle. Around 600 supporters gathered to listen to guest speaker Alice Weidel. While the AfD wanted to send a clear signal with its event, numerous counter-movements also formed, enriching the day with a colorful mix of rallies and parades.

The scene was lively, with a clear goal: to celebrate diversity and tolerance in Bad Dürkheim. This was made possible by the “Action Alliance for Diversity and Tolerance”, which organized a lift that started at the train station at 12:30 p.m. and reached Wurstmarktplatz around 1 p.m. Around 1,000 people took part in the various counter-events, which were largely peaceful. The end of the protests fell at 3:45 p.m., before the AfD event ended around 4:30 p.m.

Mutual presence in Bad Dürkheim

The counter-protesters' final rally was a highlight for many participants, with music and speeches beginning at 2 p.m. Among the speakers were the well-known artist Thomas “Edsel” Merz and the musician Christoph Glogger, who heated up the mood with their performance. A third gathering entitled “For Peace, Democracy and Equality” welcomed around 30 participants near the AfD event, setting an example for peaceful coexistence.

Particularly interesting is the criticism from Carolin Bachmann, a directly elected member of the Bundestag, who commented on the current protests. She described the demonstrators as a minority in Saxony and accused them of fomenting media smear campaigns against the AfD and manipulating unsettled citizens. “The majority of people think differently,” she clarified, emphasizing that both she and the AfD want to defend democracy, but in their own way – with a strong focus on issues such as Islamism and mass migration.

Pacifications by the police

Another aspect that characterized the day was the police operational concept, which aimed to ensure that the events ran smoothly and to protect the safety of all participants. Provocations were successfully prevented so that the majority of those present could concentrate on the essentials - the messages and objectives of the respective events.

The day in Bad Dürkheim shows once again how important dialogue is in the political landscape. While the AfD addressed issues important to its supporters, the counter-events sent a strong signal for tolerance and diversity. At least one thing is certain: debates about future issues will continue to be lively and controversial in the future.
