Neuwied is planning a mobile hall: a new event location is being created!

Something is happening in Neuwied! The city has finally found a location for a mobile hall that will serve as a temporary solution until the new city hall is completed. This mobile solution is necessary because the existing town hall in the Heimathaus will no longer receive an operating license from 2025. The hall will be built on a vacant lot on Museumsstrasse, right next to the tax office and the Deutsche Bahn parking lot. The employees of Neuwied Stadtwerke are already active and excavators are doing a lot of work to prepare the site for the mobile hall, as the Rhein-Zeitung reports.

But that's not enough! The Neuwied city administration has commissioned a comprehensive feasibility study to shed light on the situation surrounding the Heimathaus. This makes it clear that investments in fire protection measures and structural renovations are necessary in order to make the existing hall usable again. The cost-benefit check also shows that a comprehensive renovation of the town hall would cost a whopping 19 million euros, but without creating a sustainable event venue. Instead, a new building could accommodate a multifunctional hall for up to 600 people – a real benefit for the city! The planners also expect annual revenue of around 800,000 euros from a new hall.

A look at future planning

The feasibility study will be presented publicly on April 30, 2025. A central city center location is also recommended for the new hall, which may be realized at the current location or nearby. Another exciting proposal is the addition of a hotel to create synergies and strengthen Neuwied as a venue for MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions). The need is obvious, after all, there is currently a lack of infrastructure for large conferences in Neuwied.

Overall, the MICE industry shows great growth potential. In 2022, the MICE tourism market size had already grown to a hefty USD 42.8 billion and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7% between 2023 and 2032. Governments are increasingly recognizing the economic advantages of business events, and in Neuwied too, a modern event venue could prove to be a stimulus for urban development, business and tourism. The GMI Insights highlights that MICE tourism represents a platform for knowledge exchange and business development.

An outlook on the next steps

The next steps after the presentation of the feasibility study are the concrete planning for the project, the examination of funding opportunities and, last but not least, the involvement of the public. The mobile event hall will temporarily be located on Museum Street while the future design of the Heimathaus is being considered. It is particularly important that the listed part of the home building, the “Pino Italia” restaurant, is preserved and renovated.

Neuwied is taking big steps towards an exciting future. It will be interesting to see how the plans develop and what new opportunities will open up for the city and its citizens.
