Neuwied is planning a revolutionary new building for the town hall!
A lot is happening in Neuwied in the area of culture and event infrastructure. Construction for the interim solution for the Heimathaus town hall has begun on a until recently overgrown plot of land on Museumstrasse. As the Rhine newspaper reported, the planned mobile concert hall will not be realized. Instead, a new building is now on the list that will meet the requirements of a modern event venue.
The existing town hall will no longer receive an operating license beyond 2025. This is due to the significant investments that would be necessary for fire protection and structural renovations. The city administration has therefore in the Feasibility study sought a comprehensive solution and received surprisingly clear results.
Feasibility study shows clear need for action
The study, which is now available, found that a comprehensive renovation of the old home would cost around 19 million euros. But even with that, the venue would not be sustainable. A new building, on the other hand, could offer a multifunctional hall with space for up to 600 people and would be financially better positioned. The responsible press spokesman, Felix Banaski, provided quick information on how the projects were being carried out.
An exciting prospect: According to the feasibility study, public funding and private investors could help cover the high initial investments. In addition, annual revenues of around 800,000 euros are expected once the new hall is built.
Additional hotel planned
Surprisingly, the study also recommends building a “Green Design Hotel” in the city to create synergies and strengthen Neuwied as a conference location. The focus is primarily on business guests, as the current need for hotels is clearly highlighted in the current tourism concept. 100 rooms and 20 boarding house apartments are planned.
The city administration sees the potential for MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) and recognizes that Neuwied does not yet offer the infrastructure for large congresses. A modern event venue could be the decisive stimulus for urban development, business and tourism. This is not only good for the cultural institutions, but also for the entire region.
The listed restaurant “Pino Italia”, an enrichment for the catering industry, will also be included in the plans and renovated. The results of the feasibility study will be presented publicly on April 30th at 5:30 p.m. in the Amalie Raiffeisen Hall of the adult education center.
The next steps are clear: concrete planning, the examination of funding opportunities and the involvement of the public must now take place so that Neuwied will soon have a state-of-the-art town hall that really deserves the name Heimathaus.
